I missed class last week, so I’m trying to catch up with what our group is thinking for the website. We have to come up with a new name, so I mocked up the mobile page with the one Jamie assigned us. A few names that I thought might work as well are:
Organix
Farm to Table
Fresh Foods
Green Goods
Here is the sketch for the mobile web page:

I didn’t really change the site map from Eira’s original design. The only changes I made were to take out the stores in the UK and Canada. I also compiled the surveys from our book into one document so that we could have a comprehensive survey.

I ended up working with the idea of a website that is a grocery store, cafe for specialty items including gluten free and low sugar foods. Here is a screen shot of the final design, and the site map:

The first thing that came to my mind was actually an idea from my sister. She has a friend with gluten allergies who is always complaining about how hard it is to find food, and was wishing there was some sort of service that could deliver gluten free food. The idea would be that the website is the storefront for a grocery store of healthy and tasty gluten free foods. The items could be shipped nationally, or delivered locally the same day. The physical storefront would have some food in stock, and also a small cafe that serves breakfast and lunch. The site would include:
*Database of all the products for sale
*Shopping cart for purchasing goods (including the two different shipping methods)
*The menu for the restaurant with nutrition facts
*Contact information, directions to the store, hours of operation
*Tips for people new to a gluten free diet, including health benefits and symptoms of gluten allergies
*Links to affiliates
*Recipes for gluten free foods
Any comments on this idea? Does anyone think it would be a viable business? Thanks!

I didn’t really change much of the design for the front page on my site, however I did tweak the colors a bit. I think my screen tends to be darker than most, so my colors weren’t what I was hoping for when I viewed them on other screens. I know it will never be completely consistent, but I still think the new design is an improvement!
I chose the “Visit” section and the “Calendar” sections for my navigation assignment. These are the two pages I use the most often when going to museums, so I thought it would be a good place to start with my designs. I wanted to make sure the information was clear and easy to find. I don’t think anyone should have to scroll down or search around the page to find the location, hours, and price of admission. I kept them grouped closely so that they will fit easily on most screens, and kept the text minimal and to the point. On the calendar page I went with the same idea, simple and easy to use. If there is an event it will be listed in the calendar as a link, when clicked on it will pop up a transparent new window over the calendar with information about the event. The user will not be redirected so it will be easy to close out the pop up and go back to the calendar. The sub-sub navigation is listed on the left side of the pages, and both have a basic two column structure. Here’s the final result:

I don’t know if we’re supposed to post this week’s homework, but I figured it couldn’t hurt. I dropped the files into the server for my photography website. Here’s the link for the homework:

And here is the link for my photo website:

I redesigned it about 6 months ago, but I’m always looking for advice on how to improve the design, so feel free to comment on here! Thanks!

I’ve built maybe 8-10 websites before, but I’ve never put this much planning into the site structure with any of those websites. I’m starting to see how helpful this can be, and how much time it saves when it comes to creating the site out of HTML and style sheets. It’s much easier to know the dimensions of sections, placement on the screen, etc. I guess that’s why we’re in this class, to train ourselves to work more efficiently!
So my approach for the Monday May wireframe was to keep it simple and minimalistic. The links don’t move around much, they’re easy to find, and the content takes up a large portion of the screen. This way I have lots of room to be creative with the placement of the content in each section, but still maintain a simple, clear navigation structure. Here are my final wireframes:
